Haida Dogfish, QQAAXHADA

The Dogfish is a small shark and used in Haida social order artwork. It has a high domed head, mouth that turns down and pointed teeth. Look carefully to find the gill slits on the forehead and cheeks, elliptically shaped pupils, sharp spines and asymmetrical tail flukes. Bill Reid uses round ovoid where the joint marks to add power to this fiercely dynamic creature.

The Canadian Northwest Coast First Nation symbolizes copper, such as the color of salmon, as wealth, power and prestige.
